Vol. 196 No. 4

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Tourist Traffic Act: Guaranteed Loans.

35.

asked the Minister for Transport and Power if he will state (for convenience in one single record) particulars of loans guaranteed since 1952 under the Tourist Traffic Act, 1952, in the form provided by section 24 of that Act, the total amount so guaranteed in each financial year, and the grand total thereof; and if he will designate each case in which there was a moratorium of or subsidy paid against interest accruing, the amount so paid in each case, and the yearly and grand totals thereof.

The particulars about guaranteed loans requested in the first part of the Question are set out in a tabular statement which, with the permission of the Ceann Comhairle, I propose to have circulated with the Official Report.

As regards the second part of the Question, there is no provision for a moratorium of interest on guaranteed loans but there is provision for the payment by Bord Fáilte Éireann of grants towards the payment of interest on such loans. These grants are paid by the Board from funds provided to them for the discharge of their functions under the Tourist Traffic Acts and details of the amounts paid in respect of each loan are not available in my Department. Particulars of the total expenditure on interest grants on guaranteed loans in each year have been included in the annual accounts of Bord Fáilte and are repeated in the statement I have mentioned.

Following is the statement:
