Vol. 196 No. 5

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Glenflesk (Kerry) Flooding.

143.

asked the Minister for Local Government if he is aware of the serious flooding which occurs at Glenflesk, County Kerry, on the main road from Cork to Kerry; and if he will give an arterial road grant to remedy the situation.

I am aware that a section of the Killarney-Cork road at Glenflesk, County Kerry, is subject to periodic flooding. There are, however, considerable resources available to the council out of which to consider dealing with the position. They include the following annual Road Fund Grants:— a Main Road Improvement Grant of £58,000; a Tourist Road Grant of £55,000; and a £12,500 grant for the improvement of roads affected by the closing of the Headford Junction/Kenmare branch railway line. A further special grant cannot be made available for the work in question.
