6.

asked the Taoiseach the number of farmers in Offaly with holdings of (a) under £10 valuation, (b) over £10 and under £20 valuation, (c) over £20 and under £30 valuation, (d) over £30 and under £40 valuation, (e) over £40 and under £50 valuation and (f) over £50 valuation.

I propose, with the permission of the Ceann Comhairle, to take Questions Nos. 5 and 6 together. Particulars of the numbers of persons whose principal occupation is that of "farmer", classified by valuation of holdings, will not be available until the results of the 1961 Census of Population have been compiled. For the most recent particulars of the numbers of agricultural holdings of ¼ acre or more in each county classified by valuation, I would refer the Deputy to Table 7 of the Supplement on Agricultural Statistics 1960 which appeared with the March 1962 issue of the Irish Trade Journal and Statistical Bulletin. Table 8 of the same publication contains corresponding particulars cross-classified by area.
