Vol. 196 No. 8

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Local Authorities (Works) Act Expenditure in Roscommon and Galway.

54.

asked the Minister for Local Government if he will state in respect of (a) County Roscommon and (b) County Galway the total amount spent under the Local Authorities (Works) Act, 1949 prior to its suspension.

The total amounts spent prior to the termination of grants for new works under the Local Authorities (Works) Act, 1949, in Counties Roscommon and Galway were £187,472 and £292,539 respectively.

Would the Minister tell me whether the expenditure of nearly £300,000 in County Galway under the Local Authorities (Works) Act, plus almost £2,000,000 under the Arterial Drainage Act, was due to the fact that there were two Parliamentary Secretaries in the area, or had that anything to do with it?

That is a separate question.

As the Deputy knows, there was more water to be drained.
