Vol. 196 No. 8

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Dublin City Traffic Direction.

61.

Mr. Ryan

asked the Minister for Local Government the reason for the delay in painting on the roadway traffic lanes and direction arrows at all major junctions and streets in Dublin city.

I would remind the Deputy that it is for the Dublin Corporation, with the consent of or at the request of the Commissioner of the Garda Síochána, to provide roadway markings on roads in Dublin city. I understand that the Corporation, in consultation with the Garda, have in fact provided lane markings at a considerable number of locations and are considering further locations for similar treatment.

As regards arrow markings, it is intended to prescribe them and their significance in regulations under Section 95 of the Road Traffic Act, 1961. These regulations are in an advanced stage of preparation. Pending their being made, the Corporation have put down some experimental arrow markings at two locations. It is hoped to have further experimental markings, of a revised design, placed at some other locations in the near future.
