Vol. 196 No. 8

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Kildangan (Kildare) School.

77.

asked the Minister for Education what is the present position in respect of the erection of a new school for boys and girls at Kildangan, County Kildare.

I understand from the Commissioners of Public Works that a contract was placed for the erection of a new school for boys and girls at Kildangan, County Kildare. As the contractor is not prepared to proceed with the work, the Commissioners have to make arrangements for the placing of a new contract.

Will the Minister say when that will take place?

They are making arrangements to do it right away.

Is the second tenderer available, if there was one?

I think they will have to advertise for a contractor again. I have no information about the number of tenders but we did place a contract. The contractor undertook to start the work and we were under the impression that it was going ahead. He found he could not do it and the Office of Public Works have decided to seek tenders again.

They cannot give it to the second tenderer?

They may do that.

May I ask the Minister to let me know the position?

I will ask the Office of Public Works and let the Deputy know.
