Vol. 196 No. 11

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - County Waterford School.

50.

asked the Minister for Education if he is aware of the very poor condition of the Villierstown national school, County Waterford; that this school has been condemned for a long time; that a private house was used up to some time ago as a school; and that the old school is again being occupied for the teaching of children; and what steps he proposes to take to remedy the matter.

I am aware of the defective condition of Villierstown national school, County Waterford, and of the very urgent need for its replacement.

My Department has sanctioned a grant towards the cost of the erection of a new school and I understand that the Commissioners of Public Works are endeavouring to place a contract for the work. The Commissioners have been asked to advise my Department as to the feasibility of carrying out remedial works to the existing school premises pending the erection of a new school.
