Vol. 196 No. 14

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Cancellation of Lorry Insurance Policy.

31.

asked the Minister for Local Government whether he is aware that an insurance company (name supplied) have cancelled the insurance policy on the lorry of a person (name supplied) and blacklisted the person with other companies; whether the company concerned are empowered to cancel a policy in this fashion; and, if their action in this case was unjustified, if he will take appropriate action in view of the fact that the cancellation has virtually extinguished the person's business.

I have no information as to the circumstances of the case in question. If the person concerned wishes to have his case examined, he should write to me accordingly giving full particulars and I shall consider whether it is appropriate to have the case referred to the insurers' Undesirable Risks Committee. An arrangement operates whereby I can refer cases of refusal of cover to this Committee.
