Vol. 196 No. 15

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Customs Regulations.

6.

Mr. Ryan

asked the Minister for Finance if to ensure that members of the public are made fully aware of customs regulations he will cause the Revenue Commissioners to exhibit numerous notices at all landing stages and customs examination halls advising that all goods acquired abroad must be freely declared, notwithstanding the fact that goods of a lesser aggregate value than £5 are admitted free of duty as a concession.

Arrangements are already in operation at all baggage examination stations for bringing customs requirements to the attention of passengers. These arrangements include the display of notices and the issue of supplementary leaflets which cover the matters referred to by the Deputy.

I understand, however, that the Revenue Commissioners have under consideration proposals designed to assist passengers further in this matter.
