Vol. 196 No. 15

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Rathfarnham (Dublin) Primary Education Facilities.

21.

asked the Minister for Education if he is aware that Mrs. Kinlough, mother of Terence and Anthony Kinlough, has been told that alternative primary schooling is not available to them in the Rathfarnham area; and if he will investigate this matter and outline what steps he proposes to take in order to ensure that these children receive primary education in the area.

I am aware that the children in question have been attending a national school in the Rathfarnham area. As regards their transfer to another national school I must state for the Deputy's information that the provision of national education in any area is not made on the basis of a choice of schools being guaranteed.

22.

asked the Minister for Education whether he has completed his investigation into the provision of adequate primary school teaching facilities for the Rathfarnham area; if so, what his findings are; and what action he proposes to take to remedy the situation.

The nature and extent of the investigations involved are such that they will necessarily take some time to complete. It is not possible, therefore, to say at this stage what action may be required.

How long does the Minister anticipate it will take—weeks or months?

It is a matter of making a survey of population and possible future population of a fairly large area, so I cannot say how long it will be but it should be done in a matter of weeks.
