asked the Minister for Transport and Power for the last complete financial year the total capital expenditure on or towards (a) Shannon Airport, (b) Dublin Airport and (c) Cork Airport, and the corresponding figures for the period from the inception of each such airport to 31st March 1962; how much, if any, of such capital has been repaid to date; what interest, if any, on unpaid capital is paid by or debited to each of the said air-airports in their accounts; and what expenditure on each of the said airports is provided or contemplated in the present financial year or in the next two financial years.

Total capital expenditure in the financial year 1961/62 on or towards (a) Shannon Airport was £314,293, (b) Dublin Airport was £349,613, and (c) Cork Airport was £659,089. The corresponding figures for the period from the inception of the airports to 31st March, 1962 are (a) £4,929,235, (b) £2,767,232 and (c) £1,116,572. Receipts from the three airports are not allocated directly either to payment of capital or payment of interest but in calculating the operating results of each Airport interest on capital is debited at 5 per cent. which is an average rate. Depreciation on capital is also debited at an average rate of 4 per cent. The Estimates for the current financial year provide for capital expenditure of £458,000 for Shannon Airport, £785,000 for Dublin Airport and £142,000 for Cork Airport. The Estimates for 1963/4 and 1964/5 are not yet available. They will be published in the official Estimates for these years.
