12.

asked the Minister for Finance if he has received a serious complaint from the Chairman of the Athlone Branch of the Inland Waterways Association of Ireland in regard to the concrete pier at Roosky which is erected close to the public house and petrol pumps owned by Mr. T. Fallon (on the Longford shore); if he is aware that this pier projects out five feet into the river and is a definite obstacle to the navigation of the swivel bridge; that boats are using this pier as a permanent mooring and that minor accidents have already occurred; that the Inland Waterways Association have organised a rally of boats on the Shannon from 28th July to 5th August, 1962; and that 112 of these boats will pass through Roosky on the afternoon of 28th July, 1962; and if, to prevent any cause for accidents and to ensure the safety of all concerned he will cause this obstacle to navigation to be removed immediately.

The pier complained of was erected recently without the consent of the Commissioners of Public Works and they have asked Mr. Fallon to remove it forthwith.
