Vol. 197 No. 1

Written Answers. - Housing Sites.

261.

asked the Minister for Local Government if he will give a grant-in-aid towards the provision of housing sites under the Housing (Amendment) Act, 1952; and if he will consider sending a circular letter to housing authorities urging and encouraging greater use of the provisions of the Act so as to reduce their obligations under the Housing Acts generally.

The Housing Acts do not empower me to make grants towards the provision by local authorities of sites for private housing. My desire to have this facility provided on as wide a scale as possible has been frequently emphasised to local authorities in circular letters and otherwise.

262.

asked the Minister for Local Government if he will state in respect of each county (council) housing authority the total area of land which each housing authority has made available for building sites under sections 31 and 35 of the Housing (Amendment) Act, 1952, and the number of dwellings erected under section 31 of the Act.

Statistics are not recorded in my Department of the acreage made available specifically for building sites under Sections 31 and 35 of the Housing (Amendment) Act, 1952, nor of the number of houses erected on such sites.
