Vol. 197 No. 2

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Pensions of Local Government Officials and Servants.

44.

asked the Minister for Local Government if he will introduce legislation to make applicable to superannuated local government officials and servants the same privileges and benefits as those conferred on civil servants by Section 8 of the Superannuation Act, 1887.

The provisions of Section 61(e) of the Local Government (Superannuation) Act, 1956, in relation to payments under that Act in respect of deceased persons are similar to those contained in Section 8 of the Superannuation Act, 1887. The amount specified in the latter Act was increased subsequent to the enactment of the Local Government (Superannuation) Act, 1956. The question of providing for a similar increase in the amount specified in Section 61(e) of the Local Government (Superannuation) Act, 1956, is being examined.
