asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs the number of telephones per thousand persons in this country at the latest date for which information is available and, provided the information is available to him, the number of telephones per thousand persons in the United States, Great Britain, Northern Ireland and each of the countries of the European Economic Community.

With your permission, a Cheann Comhairle, I propose to circulate with the Official Report the information sought, so far as it is available to me, in the form of a tabular statement.

Following is the statement:—
