Vol. 197 No. 3

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Importation of Man-made Fibres into Britain.

49.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce whether any progress has been made in the negotiations with the British Government in respect of the import to Great Britain, free of duty, of man-made fibres of British origin which are included in finished products exported from this country to Great Britain; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

The negotiations in this matter are still proceeding and there is nothing further I can usefully add at this stage.

Would the Minister say whether there is any substantial prospect that a mutually satisfactory agreement on this issue can be reached with the British Government?

I never give up hope of reaching a satisfactory agreement.

Are the hopes getting stronger or dimmer?

I am pulling out all the stops as it becomes necessary, and I am prepared to pull out still more.

Is the Minister vigorously hopeful?

While there is hope, I am always vigorous about it.
