Vol. 197 No. 4

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - County Mayo Forestry Schemes.

79.

asked the Minister for Lands the area of land in County Mayo acquired by the Forestry Branch of his Department up to 30th September last, the location and size of the various schemes, and the number of men employed on each scheme.

The total area acquired by the Forestry Division of my Department in County Mayo up to the end of last September was 26,990 acres of which 18,098 acres were classified as productive and of which 11,621 acres were actually under woods and plantations at that date. The planting programme for County Mayo for the current year totals 1,290 acres. In addition there is a substantial programme of general maintenance and development work on hands.

There are ten forest centres in County Mayo and the 1962/63 planting programme for each centre and the number of men at present employed at each are set out in a tabular statement which I propose, with the permission of the Ceann Comhairle, to have circulated with the Official Report.

Following is the statement:—
