Vol. 197 No. 7

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Mayo Road Improvement Schemes.

35.

asked the Minister for Local Government if he can take any steps to curb the increasing cost of road improvement schemes being carried out in County Mayo.

As indicated in reply to the Deputy's previous Question of the 12th July, 1962, on this subject, all possible steps are being taken to secure whatever savings are practicable in the cost of road works in Mayo. The Department's chief engineering adviser visited the county last summer and discussed the matter in detail with the county engineer. The Department's roads inspector for the area has since reported substantial savings on at least two road works. The matter will continue to receive my close attention.
