Vol. 197 No. 8

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Cork Television Reception.

28.

asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs if he is aware that, owing to the fact that the television station at Mullaghanish, County Cork will operate only at a reduced power for an unspecified period, persons in Cork city and county who are to be served by it will be put to the initial expense of having to instal an aerial of an expensive type; and if he can indicate when the station will be operating at full power so as to enable persons to obtain reception with an aerial of a less expensive type.

The area to be served by the Mullaghanish station is so large and the terrain so variable that it is not possible to say what type of aerial will be necessary in any particular district. Generally speaking, however, I understand that an aerial of the type that will be suitable when the station is on full power should suffice during the period when it will be on reduced power.

I understand that the Authority expects that the station will be operating on full power in the spring.
