Vol. 197 No. 10

Ceisteanna—Questions Oral Answers. - Garda Police Dogs.

115.

Mr. Ryan

asked the Minister for Justice if he will state with reference to the nine occasions on which police dogs were used, referred to by him in a reply of 8th November last, the total number of persons against whom Court proceedings were taken and the outcome of such proceedings in each case.

Nineteen persons were charged. Six were sentenced to terms of imprisonment, one sentence being suspended on condition that the person in question entered into a recognizance for his future good behaviour. Ten persons were fined, one of whom was also bound to the peace. The Probation of Offenders Act was applied in two cases. One charge was dismissed.
