Vol. 197 No. 10

Ceisteanna—Questions Oral Answers. - Fair Wages Clause.

22.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if he will state in expansion of a reply of 15th November 1962 (a) the date on which the Fair Wages Clause was amended, and (b) if the alteration was made by resolution of the Dáil or by direction of the Government.

Although detailed records are not now available in my Department I understand that the alteration in the Fair Wages Clause referred to in the Deputy's question was made in January, 1923, when it was adopted by the Government Contracts Committee. There is no record of any relevant resolution of the Dáil or direction by the Government in regard to this alteration in the Fair Wages Clause.

There is grave doubt as to whether such alteration took place.

There is no doubt about the alteration because it is being operated.

Is there any evidence that it was in fact passed?

Its mere existence is evidence, I think.

It is not evidence enough for me. It is quite clear that there is no evidence.
