Ceisteanna—Questions Oral Answers. - EEC: Resettlement Proposals.

2.

andMr. McQuillan asked the Taoiseach if in order to allay justifiable fears of workers he will announce details of the Government proposals for resettlement or retraining schemes for workers made redundant in the period from now until Ireland's proposed acceptance into the EEC, in anticipation of the final recoupment settlement likely to be made from the European Social Fund to the Government when membership conditions have been finally agreed.

As Deputies have been informed, an Inter-Departmental Committee is considering the question of retraining and resettlement of workers. Pending the receipt and consideration of the Report of this Committee, I am not in a position to state when the Government's proposals in the matter will be made known.

In the case of redundancies, will the number of people who lose their jobs in the meantime be considered and brought in under whatever recommendations are made by this committee?

Until we have reached our decision, I am not in a position to announce it.

Does the Taoiseach propose to invite the co-operation of the Irish Congress of Trade Unions in connection with the preparation of this scheme?
