Vol. 197 No. 10

Ceisteanna—Questions Oral Answers. - Ballycotton (Cork) Pier.

76.

asked the Minister for Lands if he has received a request from the Cork County Council for a grant towards the extension of Ballycotton pier; and, if so, if he will give the terms of the reply.

I have received such a request and have replied to the effect that, since the technical discussion with engineering representatives of the county council on the 7th March, 1961, proposals have been awaited from the council for an effective scheme of improvements at reasonable cost towards which a contribution from State funds could be recommended in the interest of fisheries. The scheme outlined seven years ago and then estimated to cost £55,000 does not meet those requirements and, in any event, I would not feel justified in recommending a State grant of the order of £55,000 for improvement of harbour facilities at Ballycotton.
