Vol. 197 No. 10

Ceisteanna—Questions Oral Answers. - Commemorative Stamps.

92.

asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs if he has received the terms of a resolution passed at the Old Fianna Convention requesting that, as next year will be the 50th Anniversary of the formation of the Irish Volunteers, he will arrange to have four stamps struck to commemorate the Irish Volunteers, the Citizen Army, Fianna Éireann and Cumann na mBan respectively; if he has considered the matter; and, if so, with what result.

The representations referred to are still under consideration. When I am in a position to give a decision I shall communicate it to the Deputy. I may add that, apart from this exceptional request for the issue of a series of four special stamps, I have received representations for the issue of several more on other themes in 1963.

In view of the importance of next year, as a 50th anniversary, an event which can happen only once in our lifetime, which will probably be the last time the remnants of the Old Guard will come together, the Minister ought to give priority to those who made the State possible.

Is this a question?

The Minister mentioned other requests.

The Deputy is making a statement.

I am pointing out——

Do not point out—ask a question.

——the importance of priority for the people I have mentioned.
