Vol. 198 No. 1

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Valentia Bridge.

37.

asked the Minister for Local Government if negotiations on the design and site of the proposed Valentia bridge have been completed between his Department and the engineers and consultants of the Kerry County Council; and, if so, when documents will go forward for tender.

As I stated in reply to a previous question by the Deputy the erection of a bridge between Valentia and the mainland on the site proposed by Kerry County Council has been approved in principle. At an engineering conference which was held in August between representatives of the various interests concerned, agreement was reached on a number of important features of the construction, including the dimensions of the bridge, the soffit level and the provision and location of an opening span. The design of the bridge is in the hands of a consulting engineer engaged by Kerry County Council. I cannot say when the council will be in a position to invite tenders.
