Vol. 198 No. 1

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Offaly Vocational Education Grants.

47.

asked the Minister for Education if he is aware of the position of the finances of the Offaly Vocational Education Committee; and that the development of Offaly and the industrialisation of its low-rated and formerly valueless boglands have created a tremendous demand for vocational education in the county; if his Department will give Offaly the preferential treatment accorded to financially low-rated counties, by way of increased grants, so that the committee may remain solvent and go ahead with their many urgent and worthwhile proposals in the interests of vocational education; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

The Vocational Education (Amendment) Act of 1962 makes provision for the financing of the various vocational education schemes. I am satisfied that there are no such special circumstances in the case of Offaly as would warrant my going beyond what is provided for in that Act.
