Vol. 198 No. 1

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Special Allowance Reduction.

54.

asked the Minister for Defence why the special allowance payable in respect of a recipient (name supplied) was recently reduced; and if he will have the means assessment of this person reviewed in view of certain extenuating circumstances.

The reduction in the special allowance in the case referred to by the Deputy was due to the applicant reaching the age of seventy years on the 17th September, 1962, on which date he became eligible for a contributory old age pension and at which age the appropriate annual sum is reduced. His combined income from his new special allowance and old age pension is, in fact, greater than his income from his previous special allowance and the disability benefit which ceased when he became eligible for old age pension.
