Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Dublin Specialist Treatment Payments.

11.

Mr. Ryan

asked the Minister for Health if he will state in respect of each of the years 1960 and 1961 (a) the amount paid by the Dublin Health Authority to voluntary hospitals in respect of specialist treatment in out-patient departments, (b) the amount recouped by the Dublin Health Authority from other health authorities in respect of such treatment, and (c) the total amount collected by hospitals within the area of the Dublin Health Authority by means of the 2/6d. charge to out-patients.

Information is not available in respect of calendar years but the following information in respect of local authority financial years has been supplied to me by the Dublin Health Authority.

The amount paid by the Authority to voluntary hospitals for specialist services, including X-ray services, in out-patients departments in respect of the year ended 31st March, 1961, was £137,510, and, in respect of the year ended 31st March, 1962, £141,696.

The amounts recouped to the Dublin Health Authority by other health authorities for such services were £10,040 and £13,929, respectively, in the same years.

The total amounts received from Dublin hospitals by the Dublin Health Authority in respect of charges to out-patients receiving specialist services were £23,481 and £24,430, respectively, in the same years. These amounts include £13,784 and £14,742, in respect of charges at the rate of 2s. 6d. for services other than X-ray examinations. The balance in each year is made up of charges for the latter services at the rate of 7s. 6d. per examination.
