Vol. 198 No. 4

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - ESB Special Charges in Sligo-Leitrim.

45.

asked the Minister for Transport and Power if in the near future he will consider reducing the extra charge demanded from those who have not yet been connected in areas already supplied by the ESB at Ballure, County Sligo, Glenboy, Manorhamilton, County Leitrim and in the vicinity of Carrowroe, Sligo.

The fixing of the charges for electricity is a matter which falls entirely within the statutory responsibility of the Electricity Supply Board. I am informed by the Board, however, that as a result of the increased subsidy provided by the Government for rural electrification under the Electricity (Supply) (Amendment) Act, 1962 the charges for most of those still unconnected in these districts will be reduced.
