Vol. 198 No. 7

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Drainage of County Roscommon Rivers.

18.

asked the Minister for Finance how long the survey of the Lung and Breedogue Rivers, County Roscommon will take to complete; how long the preparation of the scheme will take thereafter; and when the work will begin.

A survey of the Boyle catchment which includes the Lung and Breedogue rivers will be commenced next year. The catchment covers about 130,000 acres and about 200 miles of channel will have to be examined. Special hydrological studies will be needed to determine how best to take advantage of lake storage in the formulation of the scheme. This survey is likely to take up to two years and before actual works could commence a further two years or so will be required for the design of a scheme and compliance with the provisions of the Arterial Drainage Act, 1945.
