Vol. 198 No. 7

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Shannon Airport Catering Workers.

32.

andMr. McQuillan asked the Minister for Transport and Power whether he has seen reports that further workers are to be made redundant in the catering services at Shannon Airport: if so, how many are involved; the reasons for this action; and whether alternative employment will be made available to those affected.

The employment of staff in the Shannon Airport sales and catering staff is primarily a matter for the catering comptroller. I am informed by the comptroller that, as has been reported in the public press, 70 employees of the sales and catering service have become redundant. Reports of further redundancy have not come to my notice, nor am I aware that further redundancy exists.

Every effort is being made to obtain alternative employment for the staff recently redundant.
