Vol. 198 No. 7

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Tipperary and Waterford Housing Needs.

55.

asked the Minister for Local Government the number of houses at present required to meet the needs of South Tipperary and West Waterford, and the number at present in course of erection by the relevant local authorities; and what housing schemes for the area are at present before his Department for approval.

It is a matter for each housing authority to assess from time to time the housing needs of its district. I have no statement showing the present housing needs of the areas mentioned by the Deputy.

At the 31st October last, Tipperary (S.R.) County Council had 33 houses in course of erection and Carrick-on-Suir Urban District Council had 30. There were no houses in progress for the other housing authorities concerned.

A proposal from Tipperary (S.R.) County Council for approval to the acceptance of a tender for the erection of four houses at Fethard is being examined and is the only housing proposal at present before my Department from the housing authorities in the area.
