Vol. 198 No. 7

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - County Wicklow Forestry Workers.

71.

asked the Minister for Lands (a) how many men were laid of during the present year at Hollywood forest, County Wicklow; (b) the reasons for laying them off; and if he is aware that one of them was employed by his Department for fourteen years and is in poor financial circumstances; and if he will endeavour to have this man re-employed.

In March, 1962, eighteen men were laid off at Hollywood forest. The lay-off was due to a reduction in the amount of work available at the forest. All relevant factors were taken into account in the selection of the men to be laid off. The work position has not improved since and I regret, therefore, that there is no prospect of re-employing any of the men concerned in the immediate future.

Could the Parliamentary Secretary say when there might be a prospect of re-employing them or some of them?

At present there is no clear picture as to that.
