Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Non-National Medical Practitioners in Local Authority Hospitals.

Mr. P. Hogan

(South Tipperary) asked the Minister for Health if he will indicate the number of non-national medical practitioners at present employed in local authority hospitals, and the hospitals in which they are employed.

Particulars furnished to my Department by health authorities indicate that of the 800 approximately medical practitioners at present employed in local authority hospitals, 46, all temporary and all in the registrar and house officer grades, are non-nationals. In addition, nine non-nationals are employed as interns.

These non-nationals are employed in 26 hospitals. With your consent, a Leas-Cheann Comhairle, I propose to circulate the names of the hospitals with the Official Report.

Following are the hospitals:—

St. Kevin's Hospital, Dublin,

Galway Regional Hospital,

Limerick Regional Hospital,

County Hospitals at Castlebar, Cavan, Dundalk, Ennis, Cashel, Kilkenny, Letterkenny, Mallow, Monaghan, Nenagh, Portlaoise, Sligo, Tralee, Tullamore, Waterford and Wexford,

Western Regional Sanatorium, Galway,

James Connolly Memorial Hospital, Dublin,

St. Mary's Orthopaedic Hospital, Cork,

Our Lady's Hospital and Orthopaedic Unit, Navan,

St. Brendan's Hospital, Dublin,

St. Loman's Hospital, Dublin, and

St. Brigid's Hospital, Crooksling, Dublin.
