Vol. 198 No. 8

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Tankardstown (Meath) Kiosk.

40.

asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs if he will arrange to have a telephone kiosk erected at the Halfway House, Tankardstown, Navan, County Meath.

The use likely to be made of a telephone kiosk at the location in question would not be sufficient to justify its provision.

Could the Minister tell me how he can gauge the use that might be made of it, in view of the fact that there is not a public telephone kiosk within miles?

It is just a country crossroads, halfway between Navan and Kells, and my officials have informed me that the use likely to be made of it would not justify its provision there.

Does the Minister not agree that there is no public telephone within miles of that area and that in fact it is a fairly thickly populated district?

The Deputy knows very well there are many villages in this country that have not yet been provided with telephone kiosks. Provision of these kiosks is on a planned basis and each area must take its place in the queue.

Would the Minister not consider having Tankardstown put in the queue?

I am not considering that at all.
