andMr. D. Costello asked the Minister for Education what educational associations have been asked for their opinions on the Council of Education report; and how many of these bodies are officially recognised by his Department.

The educational associations that have been asked for their opinions on the Council of Education report and which are officially recognised for such purposes are set out in a list. With your permission, a Chinn Chomhairle, I propose to circulate this list with the Official Report.

Following is the list:—

List of Educational Associations which have been asked for their opinions on the Report of the Council of Education.

1. The Board of Education of the General Assembly of the Presbyterian Church in Ireland.

2. The Board of Education of the General Synod of the Church of Ireland.

3. The Board of Education of the Methodist Church in Ireland.

4. The Chief Rabbinate of Ireland.

5. The Catholic Head masters' Association.

6. The Conference of Convent Secondary Schools.

7. The Schoolmasters' Association.

8. The Central Association of Irish Schoolmistresses.

9. Coiste Oideachais na mBráithre Críostaí.

10. The Association of Secondary Teachers, Ireland.

11. The Irish Union of Assistant Mistresses in Secondary Schools.

12. The Association of Classical Teachers.

13. The Association of Geography Teachers.

14. The Irish Science Teachers' Association.

15. Catholic Clerical Managers' Association.

16. Conference of Convent Primary Schools.

17. The Irish National Teachers' Organisation.

18. The Irish Vocational Education Association.

19. The Association of Chief Executive Officers to Vocational Education Committees.

20. Cumann an nGairm Mhúinteoirí.

All these organisations have been accorded recognition as associations of managers or teachers.

andMr. D. Costello asked the Minister for Education whether the Federation of Irish Secondary Schools have been asked for their opinion on the Council of Education report; and, if not, why.

The answer is no and the reason is that this body is not a recognised organisation.
