Vol. 199 No. 1

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Examinations for Clerical Officer Posts.

28.

asked the Minister for Finance whether consideration has been given to the reintroduction of the open competitive examination for posts as clerical officer to provide an outlet for children from secondary schools; and, if so, with what result.

As I announced in my 1960 Budget statement, the open competitive examination for clerical officers was suspended as part of a scheme for the reorganisation of certain general service grades. This whole scheme is subject to review in the light of experience in 1964. One of the matters to be considered when the review takes place will be the question of reintroducing the examination.
