Vol. 199 No. 2

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - EEC Negotiations.

1.

asked the Taoiseach if his request, made in his speech at Brussels on 18th January, 1962 to the Ministers of the member-states of the EEC, that Ireland should be given the opportunity of following the discussions with the United Kingdom and other countries in their application for membership of the Community in matters of concern to Ireland, has been acceded to by the EEC.

We have been kept informed through our diplomatic representatives in Brussels and London about the course of the discussions with Britain and other countries who have applied for membership of the Community. We have also had the opportunity of making known to the Community, where appropriate, our views on matters of concern to Ireland arising in the discussions.

Could the Taoiseach indicate if we have had any observer present at any of these discussions—anybody actually at the discussions?

No, we have not.
