Vol. 199 No. 4

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - CIO Report on Iron and Steel Industry.

17.

andMr. McQuillan asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce whether the CIO report on the iron and steel industry has been completed; if so, when it will be published; and whether he is in a position to state what estimated total number of men is likely to be declared redundant, should Ireland become a full member of the EEC under present conditions in the industry.

I have not yet received the CIO report on the iron and steel manufactures industry but I understand that the survey is at an advanced stage, and I expect that the report will be published within the next few months. The survey report will contain information on the probable effects on employment in the industry.

Could the Minister answer that part of the question which asks what estimated total number of men is likely to be declared redundant?

It is not the practice to give information about these reports until such time as they are fully published.
