Vol. 199 No. 6

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Television Interference Regulations.

30.

asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs what is the reason for the delay in making formal regulations for the elimination of television interference by the use of suppressors on electrical appliances; and when such regulations will be made.

Unexpected difficulties arose in the final framing of a completely satisfactory specification for the interference measuring apparatus and the methods of measurement to be used. These difficulties are in course of being resolved and I hope to make the Electric Motors Regulations, which have already been published in draft form, within a few months. Regulations dealing with ignition apparatus will also be published in draft form about the same time.

Would the Minister state if he is taking necessary steps to prevent television interfering with ordinary radio reception?

That is a matter for the Radio Éireann authority.

I thought the Minister was in charge.

There is a Board in charge.

Would the Minister have a discussion with them?

If the Deputy wishes to have that matter investigated in any particular instance, he can take it up with the Authority.
