asked the Minister for Health the current salary scales of (a) medical doctors and (b) dental surgeons employed full-time by health authorities.
Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Salary Scales of Doctors and Dentists.
As the reply contains a number of figures I propose, with your permission, a Cheann Comhairle, to circulate it with the Official Report.
Following is the reply:—
I assume that the purpose of the Question is to draw a comparison between the salary scales of dental officers and of medical officers in the public service who are comparable from the point of view of the nature of their appointments, and their basic conditions of service, e.g., employment on a whole-time basis without the right to engage in private practice. On that assumption, I have excluded from the reply the salary scales of such medical personnel as senior hospital medical officers and specialists employed in the larger centres or on a regional basis, and other medical specialists, e.g. county surgeons, resident medical superintendents of district mental hospitals, etc, who carry a right to certain defined private practice. On the foregoing basis, the following is the information required:—
