Vol. 199 No. 8

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Dairying Industry.

14.

asked the Minister for Agriculture if he can indicate the likely prospects for the dairying industry during 1963, with particular reference to (a) the price of milk delivered to creameries, (b) butter exports, and (c) exports of products other than butter.

In present circumstances there will be no alteration in the price of milk supplied to creameries.

As regards exports of butter and other dairy products, the position will depend on the extent of our milk production, the extent to which imports of butter into the United Kingdom will be controlled, the availability of other markets for both butter and other dairy products and the prices obtainable on those markets. The trend for some time past has been for world production of dairy products to rise at a pace which outstrips consumption.
