Vol. 199 No. 9
asked the Minister for Finance the priority of the various rivers under the arterial drainage scheme, giving the major, minor and intermediate schemes separately.
12.
asked the Minister for Finance the basis on which schemes for intermediate arterial drainage are selected.
I propose with your permission, a Cheann Comhairle, to take questions numbers 11 and 12 together and to have the priority lists of major and minor catchment areas published in the Official Report.
A priority list of intermediate river schemes has not yet been drawn up. There are very many of these rivers and sufficient information about them is not readily available to enable a priority list to be settled. Selection of the first catchments has been made on what is known of the need for drainage in the locality, the extent of the land likely to be improved coupled with suitability for speedy treatment and the geographical distribution of the work.
Following are the lists:—

15. Longford |
30. Swilly. |
Would the Minister say, in that case, how it comes that some of the intermediate schemes are being applied to rivers with a relatively small area of drainage, while much larger areas have been passed over?
That might be. There are three or four considerations involved. The ones that are readily available is a factor as well as everything else.
I think there is another consideration the Minister has left out.
