Mr. Ryan

asked the Minister for Finance if he will state in respect of each of the two new buildings inside Leinster House gates (a) the purpose, (b) date of commencement of digging the foundations, (c) date of commencement of building operations, (d) the number of men occupied in building, (e) the dimensions, (f) by whom the building operations are being carried out, (g) the date upon which it is expected the buildings will be completed, (h) the date upon which the buildings will be ready for occupation, and (i) the cost.

The replies to the Deputy's queries are as follows:—

(a) The building on the south side of the entrance is designed to provide accommodation for gate porters and a waiting room for members of the public calling to Leinster House. The other building will contain accommodation for the military guard.

(b) Excavations for foundations began in August, 1962, for the military guard building and in October, 1962 for the other.

(c) Building construction began in September, 1962 and October, 1962 respectively.

(d) The erection of the buildings forms part of the general contract for the extension of Leinster House and varying numbers of men were engaged on the work as required and as available from other parts of the contract.

(e) Each of the buildings measures 22 feet by 10 feet by 7 feet 9 inches high internally.

(f) The Contractors are Messrs. E. Stone and Sons Ltd., Ringsend, Dublin.

(g) and (h) It is expected that the military guard structure will be completed and ready for occupation within the next two to three weeks and that the other structure will be ready in about a month.

(i) The total cost of the two buildings is approximately £2,500.
