Vol. 199 No. 9

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Telephone Applications.

35.

asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs (a) the number of applications for telephones that are on hands, (b) the average number of applications being received monthly, and (c) the number of telephones being installed each month; and if he will indicate what steps he is taking to speed the rate of provision of telephones.

The particulars requested are (a) 9,600, (b) 1,300 and (c) 1,230. Allowing for cancellations (b) and (c) are approximately equal.

Every effort is being made to clear the arrears of applications and the connection rate planned for this year and next year is substantially higher than the expected rate of demand.
