Vol. 199 No. 10

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Effect of Trade Agreements on Industrial Grants.

41.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce whether, in making the proviso for a State grant to industry that all its products must be for the export market, An Foras Tionscal takes into consideration the possibility that this country may enter into trading agreements the nature of which prohibit such a proviso; and, if so, whether any conditions are attached to State aid with regard to the possibility that the continuance of the export proviso may become nonoperable.

I am aware of the possibility to which the Deputy refers. Until the situation in that respect becomes clearer, however, the view of An Foras Tionscal, with which I agree, is that it would be premature to alter the condition at present attached to grants in certain cases requiring that all of the products of the undertaking will be exported.
