Vol. 200 No. 3

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Silt Blocking of Drains.

30.

asked the Minister for Finance if he is aware of the damage being caused by silting of bog mould in the various drains adjacent to the River Boyne in Counties Kildare and Meath through the activities of Bord na Móna; and if, in the circumstances, he will be in a position to guarantee that no such silting will cause blockage when the arterial drainage scheme on the Boyne will have been completed.

The Commissioners of Public Works are aware of the siltation referred to by the Deputy and consideration is being given to this problem in the design of the drainage scheme for the Boyne catchment. It is hoped that the execution of the scheme will bring about a big improvement in the position but no guarantee can be given, at this stage at any rate, that siltation will be completely eliminated.
