Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Film Censorship

55.

asked the Minister for Justice if he will consider introducing a system of film censorship which would permit the showing of certain films to adult audiences only.

I have on more than one occasion considered the question of the introduction of a grading system. I agree that there are substantial arguments in favour of such a system but I have not at any time been convinced that, on balance, it would be desirable to change the present one.

I should like to raise a matter arising from Deputy Dillon's remarks at the meeting of the House on Thursday last when he attributed to me——

Will the Deputy please resume his seat? He spoke to me last night on this matter. I examined it closely and did not consider that the remarks contained any personal imputation on the Deputy— anything that would justify my allowing him to raise the matter——

He took advantage of me and now you are protecting him. I protest——

The Deputy will resume his seat.

Everything I said was true and Deputy John A. Costello said the same thing the previous day.

The Deputy will resume his seat.

Deputy John A. Costello said exactly the same thing about the Fianna Fáil supporters in 1957. He said the same thing about what Deputies did when called on to vote and the Sunday Review said the same thing. I defy Deputy Dillon to meet me in private to argue it out.

The Deputy will resume his seat.

It was cowardly of Deputy Dillon to say a thing like that when I was not in the House.

It was cowardly of Deputy Dillon to say a thing like that when I was not in the House.

In view of the fact that the Dáil is not meeting on Tuesday next, could the Taoiseach say if it is still intended to go ahead with the Book of Estimates?

The Vote on Account. It will be taken on Wednesday and presumably on Thursday.

When will we get the Book of Estimates?

Tomorrow morning.
