Vol. 423 No. 2

Written Answers. - Kildare Redundancy.

Bernard J. Durkan

Question:

104 Mr. Durkan asked the Minister for Labour the amount of redundancy payable to a person (details supplied) in County Kildare who has been employed for two-and-a-half years in her present employment; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

The person named by the Deputy received a lump sum of £140.00 from her former employer on 2 September 1992, the date of her dismissal on redundancy. According to the information submitted to my Department in connection with the employer's rebate claim the amount paid represented the correct statutory entitlement under the Redundancy Payments Acts.

The amount of the statutory lump-sum payment which a qualified redundant employee is entitled to receive from his/her employer is calculated as follows: (a) a half week's pay for each year of employment continuous and reckonable between the ages of 16 and 41 years; (b) a week's pay for each year of employment continuous and reckonable over the age of 41 years and (c) in addition, the equivalent of one week's normal pay. At present there is a ceiling of £250 on the gross weekly wages which may be taken into consideration when calculating the amount of statutory redundancy lump sum.
