The total net indebtedness of local authorities, excluding harbour authorities, vocational education committees and county committees of agriculture, at 31st March, 1961, was £148,090,000 and at 31st March, 1962 was estimated to be £154,220,000. The amount paid in interest on stocks and loans by these local authorities was £6,707,000 in 1960/61 and was estimated to be £7,027,000 in 1961/62.
